Contact me on [email protected] or 07974304389 On Saturday 11th June Friars JMs Netball Team travelled to Derby to compete in the England Netball Marion Smith Competition for people with learning difficulties.
Due to the growing success of the Friars JMs club this year we were able to enter two teams, one in the under 16 competition and one in the over 16 competition. On the way to the competition there were lots of mixed feelings of nerves and excitement but as soon as the matches started their nerves went away and their confidence grew. Throughout the competition the girls played with determination, passion and team spirit fighting to win but also enjoying the experience. The players were very lucky to meet England Netballer Sasha Corbin at the event who ran a coaching session for them in between games, signed autographs and posed for photos with them. Our over 16 team had a number of very challenging matches and they finished in 3rd place overall and our under 16 team successfully managed to retain their title and finished 1st making them national champions for the 3rd time!! A big well done to Alisha Noble and Rachel Durman who were chosen as outstanding players throughout the tournament and won the England Netball Star Award. They were both presented with a signed Sasha Corbin netball! All players should feel incredibly proud of their achievements and how much progress they have made during this season. Despite the defeat, the team bounced back on Saturday afternoon to beat Blackpool 50-48 the girls convincingly beat Riverside 47-36 to finish runners up in their group. The victory set Charnwood up for a game against London side Poly with the winner guaranteed a place in the National Premier league. Should you be interested in this, please contact: Andy Hassall, PE Subject Leader Jesse Gray Primary School [email protected] On the 1st day JMs started strongly with an epic win against Eagles. With 2 wins under their belt and only losing by 1 goal to Henley this gave us a strong position of playing 7 - 12th positions on day 2. We unfortunately was missing our star Defender Caitlin Urquhart for day 2 to injury, but the girls rallied round and was feeling confident for the day ahead. Start of the day saw a local Deby against MK Netters which was goal for goal until the last 5 mins of the game where MK pulled away. The girls came back strong and went on to beat Chevrons by 2 goals later that morning. Chevrons then went onto beat MK Netters, so we suddenly found ourselves waiting for results based on goal difference. Unfortunately 0.4 of a goal meant that we were playing off for 11th/12th against Grange Town who were a very physical side. We lost the play off by just 2 goals.
